Gary and Janet Tomberlin, Brazil

Posted on December 30, 2014

Missionaries to Brazil for 46 years. “God is so good! In our last letter to you we wrote about one of the most recent workers we have helped to prepare to do work for the Lord. Today we want to write about the first worker we helped to prepare after our arrival in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1967. Two years later, I was teaching in the Bible Institute there, and one of the students, Benjamin, was going with me on Sundays to a village called Pedro de Toledo to help in starting a church there. We also had services in the local jail on Sunday afternoons AND God saved one of the inmates in that jail. After Edimundo was released, he attended the church faithfully for a year, and then decided that God was calling him to preach. He graduated from the Bible Institute in Sao Paulo in 1973, and returned to work in the church in Pedro de Toledo. After Benjamin moved on to pastor a church in another city, Edmundo was called by this church where he had found the Lord, to be their pastor! And now nearly 40 years later, Edimundo is still the pastor of the Igreja Batista Biblica in Pedro de Toledo, that first church that Janet and I helped start in Brazil when we were only 29 years old. We are so very thankful that this church is a strong soul-winning church and that Edimundo has led them to start congregations in three different nearby towns. Edimundo and his wife Doroteia, have three beautiful daughters and two grandchildren. We praise the Lord for their faithfulness.”
