Salvation:
in February of 1984, soon after an arsonist burnt Temple Baptist Church in Titusville, FL, to the ground, Jeff, along with eight other young adult men, accepted Christ as Savior. Under the direction of through Pastor Wendell Correll the church rebuilt in one year and grew from 500 to over 900. It was truly like the “Church was Aflame”.
Family:
Jeff was born in Boston, MA, in 1963, and was raised in a Christian home. His mother immigrated from Northern Ireland at the age of 25, and his dad was a first-generation US citizen of parents who also immigrated from N.I. In 1989, he married Pam Thrift (daughter of Pastor Chester Thrift of Deltona, FL). His wife Pam serves as a fulltime teacher at Heartland Baptist Bible College in the English and Education Department, as well as speaking at ladies’ meetings around the country. They have one daughter, Victoria Grace, who graduated from Heartland and intends to one day serve as a missionary to Northern Ireland. Victoria works at Heartland in the Yearbook Department and for the Independent Baptist Foundation of America.
Education:
- In 1987, Bro. Copes received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Liberty Baptist College, Lynchburg, VA.
- In 1995, he completed two years of study towards his Master of Divinity Degree at Baptist Bible College, Graduate School of Theology in Springfield, MO.
- In 1997, Bro. Jeff received his Master of Education from Drury University in Springfield, MO.
Non-Ministry Experience:
- 1987 – 1989, Southeast Bank, Central Florida, Commercial Lending Department
- 1989 – 1993, Rockwell International, Kennedy Space Center, Financial Administration and Contract Negotiations Departments
Ministry Experience:
In 1993, at the age of 30, Bro. Copes surrendered his life to serve the Lord fulltime and accepted a general calling into any ministry God would open a door.
- Bro. Jeff served bi-vocationally, from 1993 through 2000, in the following ministries:
- 1993 – 1997Assistant Pastor at United Baptist Church in Springfield, MO
- 1993 – 1994 Assistant to the Vice President of Baptist Bible College
- 1994 – 1998 Business Department Chairman and full-time faculty at Baptist Bible College
- 1998 – 2000 Business Manager for the Baptist Bible Fellowship International’s Missions Office in Springfield, MO
- 1997 – 2000 Pastor of Meadowview Baptist Church in Republic, MO
- In 2000, Bro. Copes accepted the call to serve as Executive Vice President of Heartland Baptist Bible College. He is responsible for the daily operations of the college.
- In 2018 Bro. Jeff assumed the additional responsibility as the President of the Independent Baptist Foundation of America.
